Real Madrid have announced that Spain coach Julen Lopetegui will coach the La Liga side after the World Cup.
Lopetegui, 51, is currently the coach of the Spanish national team due to feature at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
]The former goalkeeper fill the vacant seat at the Santiago Bernabeu after Zinedane Zidane resigned weeks ago.
Lopetegui’s contract with Spain ran till 2020 after he signed a contract to extend his stay as the Spain Coach by two years.

“Real Madrid CF announces that Julen Lopetegui will coach the first team for the next three seasons.
“Julen Lopetegui will join the club after the participation of the Spanish team in the World Cup, after two years leading the national team.”
Lopetegui played for Real Madrid as a player once before he left the club. He also played for rivals Barcelona during his active playing career. He coached Madrid’s feeder club Castilla in 2008/09 before he moved to coach the Spanish youth teams. Lopetegui coached Spain’s U19, U20 and U21 before he joined Porto in 2014.
The timing of the announcement has been questioned as there are fears it could distract the Spanish national team at the World Cup but it is reported that Lopetgui requested the announcement himself to prevent unrest.
Lopetgui has a tough job of matching his predecessors record of three consecutive Champions League titles and a La Liga title. His first task will be to lead the UEFA Champions League winners to the FIFA World Club Cup in December.
Atletico Madrid manager, Diego Simeone, has insisted that his team is not obsessed with revenge against rivals Real Madrid, who they have been drawn to face in the Champions League semi-finals .
Simeone’s men have been beaten by their rivals in each of their last three Europea campaigns, including twice in the final.
“The goal is to reach the final and, for this, you have to beat the opponent you play,” he told a pre-match news conference ahead of this weekend’s La Liga fixture against Espanyol.
“Whoever the rival, it would be the same goal and the same reason to win.
“I’m thinking of Espanyol, it’s a tremendous week to look for third place. I do not think of anything else.
“The players have looked at the rival we will play in the Champions League, but the league does not allow you to be distracted.”
Atleti are three points clear of fourth-placed Sevilla heading into the weekend.
Cristiano Ronaldo blasted Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez after the former Barcelona player said the Real Madrid/Portugal star was unlucky to be playing in the same generation as Lionel Messi.
Speaking to Spanish radio station Cadena Ser earlier in the week, Xavi had said:
“Ronaldo is a player of his time. The problem is that there is another who has been pretty much the best player in history. Ronaldo is extraordinary but compared to Messi, for me and for everyone who likes football, there are no comparisons.
“Messi will be number one until he wants [to stop]. He’s superior to everyone and is the best in the world, unless you are Real Madrid.”
‘Only a fool could have played football and not recognize Cristiano is an elite footballer. But he just has had bad luck to be around at the same time as Leo.’
On Saturday evening, Ronaldo who scored on his Madrid comeback after months of being injured stunningly reacted to the former Barcelona captain’s comments.
‘The most searched for player on the Internet is me. Those that want to appear on front covers [of newspapers] or promote things speak about me.
‘What does it matter to me what Xavi says? He plays where? In Qatar or [somewhere], I don’t know. He’s won everything but he’s never won a Ballon d’Or. I have three.’
Ronaldo also claimed that if he were Florentino Perez, Real Madrid’s president, he would issue himself with a new mega-deal as his current deal is set to end in 2018.
‘If I were the president of Real Madrid, I would give myself a 10-year contract. Right now I’m not thinking about anything else in my career, all I want is to retire at Real. This is the biggest club in the world and it should have the best players.’
