Breaking: Lampard confirmed as new Chelsea manager

frank-lampard-derby-county-2018-19_t8vxr8ev7tdj1576pyfkjj9tv
Frank Lampard has been confirmed as the new Chelsea manager, returning to the club where he became a legend as a player.

The Blues agreed a deal with Derby County worth £4 million to cover the final two years of Lampard’s contract at Pride Park after a week’s worth of talks with the 41-year-old.

He has signed a three-year deal upon his return to Stamford Bridge to succeed Maurizio Sarri, who departed the club after a single season in charge to take over at Juventus.

Lampard spent 13 years as a player in west London, scoring 211 goals in 649 games to become Chelsea’s all-time top goalscorer.

He won three Premier League titles, the Champions League, four FA Cups, two League Cups and the Europa League while also finishing second to Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldinho in 2005.

It is understood that Lampard will bring staff from Derby with him, with ex-Blues midfielder Jody Morris expected to join as his assistant manager after working with him at the Rams.

Former Blues coach Chris Jones will also return, while head of performance analysis Steve Rands is believed to be another of the six to eight backroom staff that have spoken to the west London side.

Chelsea’s Development Squad manager, Joe Edwards, will also be promoted in line with Lampard’s arrival, with the highly-rated young coach boasting a close relationship with Morris from his time in the academy.

Lampard spoke of his delight at re-joining the club where he is regarded as a legend upon the announcement, saying: “I am immensely proud to be returning to Chelsea as head coach.

“Everyone knows my love for this club and the history we have shared, however, my sole focus is on the job in hand and preparing for the season ahead.

“I am here to work hard, bring further success to the club and I cannot wait to get started.”

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia added on the club’s official website: “It gives us great pleasure to welcome Frank back to Chelsea as head coach.

“Frank possesses fantastic knowledge and understanding of the club and, last season, he demonstrated he is one of the most talented young coaches in the game.

“After 13 years with us as a player, where he became a club legend and our record goalscorer, we believe this is the perfect time for him to return and are delighted he has done so.

“We will do everything we can to ensure he has all the support required to be a huge success.”

Lampard will now lead Chelsea into seven pre-season matches in Dublin, Japan, Germany and Austria before opening the season against Manchester United at Old Trafford on August 11.

He will not, though, be able to request new signings due to a two-window transfer ban imposed by FIFA.

The arrival of Christian Pulisic, whose move from Borussia Dortmund was completed in January, will help ease the load on Lampard’s squad while Mateo Kovacic has seen his loan move from Real Madrid turned into a permanent deal

Nigeria to face Cameroon in Afcon last-16

Holders Cameroon will face three-time Africa Cup of Nations winners Nigeria in the last-16 of the 2019 edition after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Benin, who sealed their place in the knockout stages for the first time.

Clarence Seedorf’s side needed a victory to guarantee they progressed from Group F in first place but found a stubborn Benin side hard to break down in Ismailia.

Cameroon will now face Gernot Rohr’s side in Alexandria on Saturday. Michel Dussuyer’s side held on for a point that means they will progress as one of the four best third-place teams and are likely to face hosts Egypt or Morocco, with South Africa now awaiting the result of Tuesday night’s final fixtures in Group E to see if they have qualified.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s 2-0 victory over Guinea-Bissau thanks to goals from Jordan Ayew and Thomas Partey ensured that the Black Stars topped Group F and they will now face the runner-up from Group E

Women’s World Cup; VAR sinks Super Falcons hope

nigeria-fan_1lchmxqiwv5vi1ud5xpg2tssgh

The hope of the Super Falcons were brought down by VAR in their last group game of the 2019 Fifa Women’s World Cup against France, according to Nigerian fans.

Nigeria went into the encounter in dire need of a positive result, but Wendie Renard’s 79th minute penalty condemned Thomas Dennerby’s ladies to their second defeat of the championship.

The game was heading for a 0-0 draw before VAR awarded a penalty kick to the hosts after Ngozi Ebere was penalised for fouling Viviane Asseyi in Nigeria’s penalty area.

The initial kick by Renard hit the outside of the post and went wide. However, VAR ordered a replay after goalkeeper Nnadozie moved off her line before the kick. The Olympique Lyon star made no mistakes in converting the retake as Les Bleues made it three wins in three games.

It was a decision that has split opinion, with many feeling the African champions were hard done by the Video Assistant Referee.

Breaking: Sarri finally leaves Chelsea

Chelsea’s coach Maurizio Sarri has dumped the premier league club to join Juventus.

Chelsea on Sunday reached an agreement that has seen Maurizio Sarri swap Stamford Bridge for Allianz Stadium.

Sarri has left Chelsea to take over Juventus on a three-year contract, it has been confirmed.

Chelsea Sunday officially confirmed that manager Maurizio Sarri is leaving the club to join Italian giants Juventus.

The two clubs have reached an agreement for the early termination of Sarri’s contract with Chelsea FC which had two years left to run and is ending at his request.

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia said: ‘In talks we had following the Europa League final, Maurizio made it clear how strongly he desired to return to his native country, explaining that his reasons for wanting to return to work in Italy were significant.

‘He also believed it important to be nearer his family, and for the well-being of his elderly parents he felt he needed to live closer to them at this point.

‘Maurizio leaves Chelsea with thanks from us all for the work he and his assistants did during the season he spent as our head coach, and for winning the Europa League, guiding us to another cup final and a third-place finish in the Premier League.

‘We would also like to congratulate him on securing the role as big as any in Serie A and to wish him the best of luck for the future.’

Sarri moved to London last summer, joining us from Napoli, and his Chelsea side made a strong start to the Premier League campaign. We won our first five games and went unbeaten in all competitions from the start of the league season until late November when we suffered a reverse against Tottenham at Wembley.

Progression from the group stage of the Europa League was comfortable and a home Premier League win against eventual champions Manchester City a highlight in December.

MAURIZIO SARRI CELEBRATES THE HOME WIN OVER MAN CITY
However, our away form dipped in the New Year and we suffered heavy defeats at Bournemouth and Manchester City. Our league season by then was focused on achieving a top-four finish and entry back into the Champions League, a target that was reached with one game left to play.

Sarri achieved this while implementing a new style of play and a change in formation which was spoken of favourably by members of the squad. Young Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek won increasingly frequent starts in the second half of the season until injury struck them both.

In the Carabao Cup we made it all the way through to the final and as Sarri pointed out, we had to beat the two finalists in the Champions League, Liverpool and Tottenham, along the way. At Wembley we bounced back from our heavy league defeat at Man City by performing well in a tight contest which was only decided in the domestic treble winners’ favour by a penalty shoot-out.

Our FA Cup campaign under Sarri ended at the fifth-round stage at home to Man United but in the Europa League, he was not to be denied the first major trophy of his managerial career. Premier League opposition were overcome when Arsenal were swept aside in Baku to ensure that our return to the Champions League next season will be as one of the top-seeded sides.

It also confirmed Sarri as just the fifth man to coach Chelsea to a European trophy. We wish him well for his time back in Italy.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer completes first signing ahead of new season

skysports-daniel-james-manchester-united_4693036
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has completed his first signing, Daniel James to Manchester United from Swansea on a five-year contract with the option of a sixth, subject to international clearance.

United had agreed a deal in principle to sign the 21-year-old from Swansea last week, with the player having completed a medical and agreed personal terms.

Sky Sports News understands United will pay Swansea an initial fee of £15m, plus £3m in add-ons, for James – who becomes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first signing as the club’s manager.

“Daniel is an exciting young winger with lots of skills, vision, exceptional pace and a good work ethic,” United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told the club’s official website.

“He had a great season with Swansea City and has all the attributes needed to become a Manchester United player.

“We are delighted he has signed with our club and we are all looking forward to working with him. This is the perfect environment for Daniel to continue his development.”

James is delighted to have sealed his move to Old Trafford but admitted the move is “tinged with sadness” after his father passed away last month.

“This is one of the best days of my life and a challenge I am really looking forward to,” he said.

“The Premier League is the best league in the world and Manchester United is the perfect place for me to continue to develop as a player.

“This is an incredibly proud moment for me and my family, however, it is tinged with sadness that my father isn’t able to share this experience with us.

“I am looking forward to working with Ole, meeting the team and getting started.”

Breaking: Real Madrid complete signing of Chelsea star Hazard

Eden Hazard has completed his highly anticipated move to Real Madrid from Chelsea.

The Spanish giants confirmed the signing of the Belgium international on a five-year deal on Friday.

“Although it is with sadness we say goodbye to Eden and we made it absolutely clear to him the club wished him to stay, we respect the decision he has made to take on a new challenge in a different country and follow his childhood dream of playing for Real Madrid,” Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia said on the official website.

“The memories he leaves us with will not fade. He provided all who watched Chelsea play with great entertainment and many match-winning contributions, and for that we thank Eden enormously,” he added.

Hazard has been a long-term target for Madrid and hinted after last year’s World Cup he planned to leave Chelsea.

But the 28-year-old stayed at Stamford Bridge for another season, helping them to Europa League glory with a brace in the 4-1 final victory over Arsenal in Baku before revealing his intention to move on in the immediate aftermath.

The former Lille star won two Premier League titles and the Europa League twice with Chelsea, as well as an EFL Cup and FA Cup during his seven-year stint.

He joins Madrid as part of a squad overhaul by Zinedine Zidane that has already seen Rodrygo Goes, Eder Militao and Luka Jovic move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Just In: Sarri to leave Chelsea, as he agrees deal with Juventus

Sarri-record-in-Chelsea’s
Maurizio Sarri has reached an agreement with Juventus to become the Serie A champions’ next head coach and has requested Chelsea release him from his contract to join the Bianconeri, Goal understands.

Fali Ramadani, Sarri’s agent, met with Chelsea management Friday to discuss his client’s future with the club as a move to Turin draws closer and closer.

The 60-year-old Sarri intended to wait until the end of the season, and specifically the Europa League final, to consider the subject of what came next in his career.

But the Chelsea boss has received an offer from Juventus that would pay him €7 million (£6m/$8m) to succeed Massimiliano Allegri, who had coached the Bianconeri to five straight league titles, at the club.

Ramadani relayed news of that offer to Chelsea, as well as Sarri’s request to be allowed to join Juventus, though the Blues will take a few days before providing the manager with an answer.

Chelsea do not want to be unprepared for Sarri’s departure and are targeting a new manager before giving the green light for their current boss to leave.

Former Chelsea star and current Derby County manager Frank Lampard has been linked with the job in recent weeks, though the ex-Blues midfielder has downplayed those reports in the build up to his side’s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa in the Championship promotion play-off final.

Sarri appears to have beaten out a host of candidates for the position, though that list includes a trio of managers in Mauricio Pochettino, Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp who were unlikely to depart for Turin due to their strong relationships with their current clubs.

Having been the subject to speculation about his job for much of the second half of the season, and enduring a difficult relationship with the Chelsea supporters, Sarri did not share the same connection to the club as his Premier League colleagues.

Should Sarri depart for Juventus, he will leave Chelsea having improved on the league position achieved by Antonio Conte in 2017-18, going from fifth to third, and returned the club to the Champions League for next term.

He also guided the Blues to a pair of finals, falling to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup decider on penalties while defeating London rivals Arsenal 4-1 in the Europa League final on May 29.

Sarri will be joining a former rival in the process, having guided Napoli from 2015-18, guiding them to a pair of second-place finishes behind Juventus.

Hazard in Spain ahead of £115m transfer as he is seen holding up Real Madrid shirt

CHELSEA star Eden Hazard has been snapped holding up a Real Madrid shirt in Spain ahead of his potential switch to the Bernabeu in the summer.

The 28-year-old is expected to sign for Los Blancos in a £115million move, where the player is set to pocket £4000,000-a-week.

Eden Hazard currently finds himself between the two clubs, with a deal expected to be reached imminently
Real president Florentino Perez recently stated his side are desperate to nab the Belgium international, with the club confident a deal can be reached.

Hazard all-but confirmed he would be leaving Stamford Bridge after he inspired the Blues to a 4-1 victory against Arsenal in the Europa League final on Wednesday.

And now he has been spotted proudly holding up a Real jersey in an exclusive picture obtained by the Mirror.

They show Hazard on holiday in Marbella, where he held up the white top along with a fan, before he allegedly signed it.

Speaking after the clash against the Gunners, in Baku, the ex-Lille ace said: “I think it’s a goodbye but in football you never know.

“We will decide in a few days – the only target in my mind was to win this final. Maybe now it is the time for a new challenge.

“My dream was to play in the Premier League and I have done that for one of the biggest clubs.”

Real skipper Sergio Ramos recently voiced his opinion on the winger, as he urged his club to bring him to Madrid.

He said: “Hazard seems to me a world-class player. I hope he can come.

“I am optimistic about the immediate future of the club with the new players that will arrive.

Just In: Former Chelsea coach Conte signs for Inter Milan

Inter have confirmed the appointment of Antonio Conte as their new coach following the departure of Luciano Spalletti.

Despite qualifying for the Champions League by finishing fourth in Serie A, Inter announced the dismissal of Spalletti in a short statement on Thursday.

The news came as a surprise to few, as rumours had linked Spalletti with the sack for several weeks with Conte mooted as his potential replacement.

Speculation went into overdrive on Wednesday when a photo of Conte with Inter’s media team surfaced on social media, and the club made an announcement on Friday.

“A new chapter in my life is beginning, I’m really excited,” Conte said in a statement.

“Through my work, I’ll try to repay all of the trust that the president [Steven Zhang] and directors have placed in me. I have chosen Inter because of the club it is, because of the project’s sound basis and how ambitious it is. Because of Inter’s history.

“I was struck by the club’s transparency and the desire to bring Inter back to where it belongs.”

A title winner in both Italy and England, Conte will reportedly receive a base salary of €10million for the first two seasons he is in charge.

The 49-year-old had been out of a job since leaving Chelsea last year, having paid the price for finishing fifth in the Premier League. However, the season before he had led the Blues to a league and FA Cup double.

He returns to Serie A having won the competition three times as coach of Juve, who he left in 2014 to take charge of the national team.
