READ: Conte says there were many reasons for Chelsea losing to Bournemouth

Antonio Conte said there were ‘many reasons’ his side lost 3-0 to Bournemouth.

The Blues were stunned by the struggling side, with Chelsea falling to their joint heaviest defeat of the Italian’s reign.

The first half saw Chelsea lose Andreas Christensen to injury in the 28th minute, with the defender having to be replaced by Antonio Rudiger.

Bournemouth broke the deadlock shortly after half-time through Callum Wilson. Then in the space of three minutes the Cherries were 3-0 ahead, with Junior Stanislas scoring from a well worked move and then former Blues player Nathan Ake turning the ball in after a corner.

Chelsea showed little bite, managing just five shots on target during the game. As well as the injury to Christensen, Conte was short of options in attack with Michy Batshuayi having departed for Borussia Dortmund and his replacement, Olivier Giroud, ineligible to play.

It saw Chelsea start with Ross Barkley in attack with Eden Hazard and Pedro. ‘I think they deserve to win the game and I’m right to say this, they deserve to win the game and we tried to do something but today it was very difficult for us even in the first half when the result was 0-0, I think we struggled a lot,’ said Conte.

‘[We struggled] for many reasons, but it’s not important to speak about excuses, they deserve to win and we need to restart to work and to do our best.

We have to accept it’s a bad result and understand that we have to fight this season, if someone didn’t understand this they don’t understand football. Football is not simple.’

Conte refused to specifically blame Christensen’s injury, or the lack of a striker. ‘I don’t think this [Christensen] affected the defence or the team, in other circumstances we play in same way and win, I repeat today is a bad day and they deserve to win and we have to accept result and bad mistakes.

‘In the past with a striker we have chances and still don’t score. I think now is not the right moment to speak of the transfer market for me. It’s not important, it’s important to work and do best with my players.’ The result sees Chelsea drop to fourth in the table, just two points above Tottenham,.
