Breaking: COZA pastor Biodun Fatoyibo ‘steps down’

The embattled pastor of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly Biodun Fatoyinbo Monday said he is taking “leave of absence” from the church, a day after protesters demanded his resignation.

“I have decided to take a leave of absence from the pulpit of the church,” Fatoyinbo said in a statement posted to his Instagram page.

“It is in the interest of the flock of Christ that issues concerning me do not become a distraction to their worship of their Lord.”

The pastor, who said the past few days have been very “sobering”, said he took the decision after he was advised by the Christian leaders and that of the church leaders.

He added that although, the decision breaks his heart, it was the “right thing to do at this time.”

Fatoyinbo was accused by Busola Dakolo, a celebrity photographer and wife of singer Timi Dakolo, of raping her twice in a week when she was still a teenager.

Fatoyinbo has denied ever raping Busola or any other person. His wife, Modele, also spoke in his defence.

“Not even as an unbeliever will my husband rape someone,” Mrs Fatoyinbo said during the church service on Sunday.

Despite Fatoyinbo’s denial, hundreds of protesters marched on COZA premises in Lagos and Abuja, demanding the resignation and prosecution of the pastor.

An obviously hired crowd also held a pro-Fatoyinbo march in Abuja. A protester told newsmen that he was given N10, 000 to stomp for the pastor.

Fatoyinbo’s Wife defends husband against rape allegations

IMG_20190630_112258-974x548

The wife of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly global senior pastor, Modele Fatoyinbo, Sunday said the rape allegations against her husband were untrue.

“Not even as an unbeliever will my husband rape someone,” Mrs Fatoyinbo said during the church service broadcast and monitored from inside the Lagos branch of the church in Ikeja, Lagos.

But Biodun Fatoyinbo stopped his wife from talking further about the rape allegations.

Biodun Fatoyinbo was alleged to have raped Busola Dakolo, a celebrity photographer and wife of Nigerian singer Timi Dakolo, when she was a teenager.

Modele’s denial of the allegations is a re-echoing of her husband’s Friday statement.

“I have never in my life raped anybody even as an unbeliever and I am absolutely innocent of this,” Fatoyinbo said in a statement posted to his Instagram page on Friday.

However, the allegations have generated widespread condemnations, controversies and prompted protesters to storm the Abuja and Lagos premises of the church demanding the Fatoyinbo should vacate his position as the leader of the church.

But the presence of the armed policemen deterred the marchers from moving close to the church.

A protester told The Guardian that the protest was necessary to free and give other rape victims voice to speak up.

“This protest is not against COZA or the church of God, it is to give rape victims voice,” the protester said.

A right activist Segun Awosanya told The Guardian on Saturday that there were more than 30 alleged victims who will testify against the pastor.

OFFICIAL: Man Utd Complete £50m Wan-Bissaka Signing

manchesterunited-20190629-0001

Manchester United have completed the signing of Crystal Palace full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka in a deal worth £50 million ($63m).

The England Under-21 international underwent a medical at United’s Carrington training complex on Thursday having returned from the Young Lions’ unsuccessful tilt at the European Under-21 Championship in Italy.

And now the club has announced that they have wrapped up the signing of the highly-rated 21-year-old, making him their second addition of the summer following on from the deal which brought Daniel James to Old Trafford from Swansea City.

United and Palace had negotiated long and hard over the exact details of the transfer fee, with a sell-on clause in Wilfried Zaha’s switch from Old Trafford to Selhurst Park in 2015 having become a bone of contention as Palace wanted to remove the 25 per cent demand removed in return for allowing Wan-Bissaka to leave.

IMG-20190629-WA0005
But the two sides finally settled on an initial £45m outlay, with a target-related £5m due at a later point.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka said: “It’s an unbelievable feeling and an honour to call myself a Manchester United player and something I know that only a small number of players have the privilege to say.”

FG-Labour Fail To Agree On Minimum Wage Implementation

Minimum-wage-meeting

The Federal Government and labour have failed to reach an agreement on the consequential adjustment arising from the N30,000 new national minimum wage.

The meeting with was held on Thursday ended without agreement when representatives of the federal government informed the committee that whatever adjustment arrived at must be in line with the N168bn provided for the adjustment in the 2019 budget.

A source told said that labour and the Federal Government differed on the salary increase for officers on levels seven to 14.

He said, “What we are pushing for is that government should adjust the minimum wage of those who are already on level one to level six to reflect the new minimum wage. Then officers on level seven to 14 should be given an additional 30 per cent of their salaries. We are also pushing that those on level 15 to level 17 should be given 25 per cent of their salaries. That will be fair enough to all and that is what we are proposing.

“But government does not want to do that, technically, and that is what they are standing on.

“Government is saying that from level seven to level 14, only nine and a half per cent of their salaries will be added while only five per cent increase in salary will be offered officers on levels 15 to 17.”

The source stated that the federal government is working towards a certain fixed amount and expects labour to be bound by it.

“What really happened after that was that the meeting ended in a deadlock. The term of reference even to the technical committee was to go and work the consequential adjustment based on the economic reality of today. But when the meeting got to a stage, government said the adjustment would be based on the provision for the adjustment made in the 2019 budget.

“The scenario is that government is working towards a certain fixed amount and we are expected to be bound by it. What is in the budget for the minimum wage adjustment is N168bn. If we accept to work along that line, it means that whatever calculation we are working on must arrive at that amount.

“That was not our initial agreement. We were even asking the representatives of the government that they should let us know how much government is working towards so that the committee would be guided.

“What government is coming up with now is not what we agreed in the terms of reference. With that, we cannot continue with the discussion. If government wants to issue circular based on that, it is free but we are not going to be party to that.”

COZA: Nigerians React As Timi Dakolo’s Wife Accuses Pastor Fatoyinbo Of Rape

Timi-Dakolo-and-wife-696x415

Several Nigerians have condemned Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) for allegedly raping Busola Dakolo, the wife of singer Timi Dakolo.

This online news medium had reported that Dakolo last month alleged that Pastor Fatoyinbo sleeps with female members of his church.

In a series of Instagram posts, Dakolo claimed that Fatoyinbo had not stopped the act of sleeping with girls in his church.

The singer further claimed that the COZA pastor and some elders in the church were covering his (Fatoyinbo’s) action to the point of even paying to silence some victims.

Dakolo’s allegations, which are yet to receive any response from Fatoyinbo, had generated so much dust.

And it seems there is no end to this controversy as Busola has alleged that the clergyman raped her twice while she was a single lady in Ilorin, Kwara state.

Reacting to the incident, Nigerians on Twitter expressed sadness, lauding Busola for having the courage to speak out.

ICPC Asks Lai Mohammed To Appear In Court over N2.5bn Fraud

LAI-MOHAMMED-NEW

Former Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed.
The immediate past Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, has been asked by the Independent Corrupt Practice and other related offences Commission (ICPC) to appear at Federal High Court in Abuja over an alleged N2.5 billion fraud case involving the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

Reports have it that ICPC is prosecuting Ishaq Modibbo Kawu, NBC Director General, over “abuse of office and money laundering”.

Kawu, alongside the Chairman of Pinnacle Communications Limited, Lucky Omoluwa and the Chief Operating Officer of the same company, Dipo Onifade, were docked before Justice Folashade Ogunbanjo-Giwa of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

The Commission, in a 12-count charge, accused them of abuse of office, money laundering and misleading a public officer with the intent to defraud the federal government, in contravention of Section 26 (1) (c) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000 and punishable under Section 19 of the same law.

The presidency had in 2016, released N10 billion to the Ministry of Information and Culture for the digital switch-over programme which entails migration of telephone lines from analogue to digital platforms and a White Paper was issued directing that the process be specifically handled by government-affiliated companies.

Based on the guidelines provided by the White Paper, two companies were nominated to handle the process, one of which was ITS, an affiliate of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). About N1.7 billion was released to it as seed grant for the commencement of the switch-over.

However, ICPC said that through investigation, it discovered that the process was fraught with alleged corrupt practices.

“It was alleged that Mr Kawu fraudulently recommended a private company called Pinnacle Communications Limited, to the Minister of Information and Culture, for the release of N2.5 billion against the guidelines contained in the White Paper.

“The N2.5 billion was paid into the Zenith Bank account of Pinnacle Communications Limited in May/June, 2017 for the programme.

“The DG NBC during interactions with the Commission could not justify why the government White Paper was flouted leading to the release of money to an unqualified company,” the statement said.

It added that the Managing Director of Pinnacle, Dipo Onifade, during interrogation confirmed the release of the funds to the company. He could not justify that the money was used for the purpose of digital switch-over.

The commission also said through investigation, it discovered several suspicious transfers of large sums of funds from the account of the company into the bank accounts of several organisations and individuals.

It found out that N100 million of the fund was paid into the personal bank account of Mr Onifade in Zenith Bank which he claimed was for legal services that he had rendered to the same Pinnacle Communications where he is employed.

Also investigation revealed that another N450 million was transferred into the account of Sabdat Investment Limited, a Bureau de Change, which then converted the money into dollars and handed it over to the Chairman of Pinnacle Communications Limited, Lucky Omoluwa, in his Kaduna residence as he usually did with other funds.

Omoluwa had repeatedly failed to honour invitations, the Commission said.

“He had also sought the leave of the Federal High Court, Abuja, to stop the investigation as well as unfreeze the Zenith Bank account of the company that was frozen by ICPC, but was however ordered by the same court to appear before ICPC for interrogation before the next adjourned date of 3rd December, 2018 before his case would be heard.

“In compliance with the court order, Mr. Omoluwa has appeared before the Commission where he made useful statements to investigators,” the ICPC added.

Actor Reveals How Two Women Raped Him

Uche-Maduagwu-696x450

Actor Uche Maduagwu has taken to his Instagram page to reveal how he was raped by two women at a party because he ‘looked like an usher’ five years ago.

Maduagwu, who shared this on Wednesday, said that the trauma of the rape had made him have phobia for night parties.

He said, “I have a phobia for night party. I was raped at a party because I looked like an usher. This happened 5 years ago in Lekki, I have never shared this trauma-filled story with anyone before, and the only reason I am even talking about it now is because a lot of friends are always asking why I am so selective when invited to parties in Naija like other celebrities.

“Firstly, I get paid to party in Lagos, Abuja or any where in Nigeria; secondly, I don’t just accept “appearance fee ” to attend any party, I need to be sure of my safety, because what happened to me at a party in Lekki 5 years ago is still traumatic to say the least.

“My manager contacted me about a party, ok, I said he should negotiate the “appearance fee” which he did, but on that very night, while partying and I think I had too much drink that night, so I tried going to the toilet, I never knew two ladies were following me, I was tipsy, the next thing I heard, one of the girls, who said she was based in Canada or UK, was telling me I looked so much like an usher, that she needs to taste me.

“Before I know what was happening, these two ladies raped me illegally without showing mercy.”

Afcon 2019: Buhari Eventually Releases Super Eagles Funds

Super-Eagles

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the disbursement of funds to the Super Eagles of Nigeria for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

This was disclosed in a statement obtained by Sports Extra from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Communications Department.

It could be recalled that the Super Eagles had staged a protest over outstanding bonuses and allowances owed them.

The players had snubbed a pre-match conference and also arrived 20 minutes late for training ahead of the Group B game against Guinea.

NFF’s vice president, Seyi Akinwunmi, confirmed that the federation received part of the money on Tuesday morning.

He also disclosed that the federation has commenced the process of converting the money to Dollars at the Central Bank in order to pay the Super Eagles players the bonus for the win over Burundi three days ago as well as for subsequent games.

Akinwunmi said: “The only issue we had was that some of the players did not send their bank accounts and instead authorised their banks to pay their monies to some other individuals. The banks requested clear authorisation for this to happen.

“I was on a telephone discussion with the captain of the team Mikel Obi this morning and can safely say that all clarifications have been made and the usual cordial relationship and understanding between the players and the administrators is still intact.

“I have challenged them to go all out and win the trophy assuring them that their money all the way to the final is guaranteed. It’s now for the players to focus on the championship and deliver glory to the nation. I have no doubt of their ability to do that.”

I receive N750,000 as my salary – Senate president Lawan

The President of the Senate, Dr. Ahmad Lawan has said that there was nothing like jumbo salary for National Assembly members as being speculated in some quarters.

Lawan made the disclosure, when members of the Senators’ Forum paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Abuja on Tuesday.

While further disregarding the jumbo pay issue, he revealed that his monthly salary as a lawmaker and that of his colleagues was N750,000.

“What I want to emphasize here is that I never believed that that there is anything called Jumbo pay to the national assembly.

“The National Assembly members both the Senate and the House receive what is their salaries and I receive N750,000 as my salary.

“But I need to function as a senator, my office needs to be properly funded,” he said.

He promised that the national assembly was going to be open to the general public in the conduct of its legislative activities, particularly in the area of funding

“National Assembly is going to be open to the public, I believe that the national assembly should have everything open, let Nigerians know what we are doing.

“I believe that Nigerians need to understand this, we need to continually engage with Nigerians and I will also argue that we continue to explain to Nigerians, they deserve to know how their resources are being utilised.

“I believe that the national assembly needs proper funding because the legislature is so critical in any national development,’’ he said.

He went further that the ninth senate would be a by-partisan Senate that would carter for the unity and progress of the nation.

“This senate is a by-partisan senate, senators consciously decided to work for us and we take that very seriously, what that means is that we are going to make for progress Nigeria.

“Because what we have done is to be patriotic and we belong to various political parties, but once we are here Nigeria is our constituency.

“The Senate is going to be united in the conduct of its oversight. It is a senate that will work for Nigeria. We are going to do everything possible to remain united in a very by–partisan manner and remain focused.

“Because the challenges against Nigeria is enormous, we need to enhance our security.

“We need to make sure the economy works for every one for those at the lowest ladder and those at the top, this is necessary I don’t believe that rancor or hostility will yield any positive result.

“I have witnessed how rancour undermined national development, I also witnessed a very peaceful and cordial relationship that at the end of the day produce the kind of outcomes that Nigerian desire.

“So we are here to follow the part of peace, but we are going to be very seriously and systematically in our over sight.

“A minister or head of organisation that is expected to function must function,” he said.

He said the senate was determined to ensure that the Nigeria returns to the January to December budget process.

“We have to work together and archive what need to archive for Nigerians.

“We know the challenges and we will work hard to ensure that we get the solution.

“This senate is determined to ensure for example we pass the budget in three months and we believe this is achievable and doable.

“All we require is for the executive to provide the appropriation bill in good time may be at the end of September or early week of September.

“The national assembly will sit to ensure that there is defence of the budget by the MDAs and before we live for Christmas we will ensure that the budget is passed, so that we go back the January to December budget cycle,’’ he said.

Earlier, the Chairman of the forum, Sen. Khariat Gwadabe, said the meeting was a unique opportunity for them to interface with the president of the senate.

She also expressed confidence in Lawan’s capacity to lead the senate, having spent 20 years in the parliament, adding that the forum was ready to support the ninth assembly.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the forum is made of both serving and former senators numbering about 600.

Meanwhile, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday, June 24, began investigation into how some of its members allegedly compromised during the election of principal officers of the National Assembly.

The party’s NWC, according to national spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, set up a fact-finding committee on the role played by some of its members during the election that produced Ahmad Lawan as Senate president and Femi Gbajabiamila as speaker respectively.
