No cabal in Aso Rock, says presidency

Office of Nigeria president Muhammadu Buhari has said there are no influential individuals directing affairs of the country asides the elected president.

“Unless you tell me who they (cabal) are. The Vice President has told the media that he doesn’t know of a cabal, neither are they visible to me,” presidential spokesman Femi Adesina said in an interview on Channels Television.

Adesina, who was asked of how effective the president will be in his second tenure, said there was no influence on his performance in his first tenure.

This was not the first time Buhari’s competence to control the government has come under criticism.

In December 2018, his wife Aisha Buhari revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration would have done better if not for two powerful persons.

Mrs Buhari said her husband would have achieved a lot more than it had in three years if not “for two people in government who will never allow things to move fast.”

“I am disappointed in men who rather than fight these two men will go to them in the night begging for favour,” she said.

But Buhari subsequently insisted there was no cabal running his government and asked his critics to name one decision taken by the cabal.

“That’s her business,” Buhari said during an interview with the Hausa service of Voice of America.

While the subject of cabals hijacking government from Buhari seem to be dead, Adesina said there was no cabal at anytime.

“No, unless you can prove to me that there is indeed a cabal. If I have not seen a cabal, nothing like that has affected my work in any negative sense, then I can’t agree with you that there is indeed a cabal,” Adesina said.

He, however, said Buhari’s second term will be devoted to building a legacy he began in 2015.

“The second term is a term for legacy building,” Adesina said.

“The President would do all that will stand in good stead in the memory of Nigerians as a President that came, that saw and that conquered.”
