ATLETICO MADRID ADMIT DEFEAT IN DIEGO COSTA PURSUIT

Atletico Madrid today finally conceded defeat in their pursuit of Chelsea striker Diego Costa and confirmed they will no longer attempt to re-sign him.
Atletico made buying Costa, who they sold to Chelsea for £32million, their top priority this summer.

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo was quoted earlier this week as saying the club were ‘close’ to a deal for Costa, only to later deny he said those words.

Chelsea, who have written a second letter of complaint to Atletico, have also threatened to report the Spanish side to FIFA if they keep trying to buy Costa.
Cerezo said: “Diego is a great player, who is very much loved, but he is a Chelsea player.

“The issue is as it was six months ago or even a year ago, he is a Chelsea player. I’ve always said that Costa is a Chelsea player and has a contract with Chelsea. That’s the end of this issue.

“The day we have a number nine we will announce it. We are looking for one and once we have him, we will announce it.”
Costa still has three years left on his contract at Stamford Bridge and is prepared to stay in west London.
