Mavin CEO, Don Jazzy, recently sat down for an interview with Forbes Africa Correspondent, Peace Hyde, on the 5 episode of the flagship Forbes Africa TV show, ‘My Worst Day.’
when asked about is worst day
He said D,banj is willing to pursue international career and he was not ready,
in his word;
“he wanted to concentrate on the American market, i don’t think we are ripe enough for that i just felt we are wasting so much money to create fire where there is no flame, its not like am not looking at the bigger picture, but i like to be realistic with myself, there is no way i will do that without thinking of my other children that i have over here in my record label, there was Wandecole, Dr.sid, D’prince and when i am committed to doing something i like to see it to the end, so i know me going to the U.S will leave the rest of them hanging, i will be concentrating on producing for kanye west and the rest of them, a lot of them were on me like serve me beat, do this bla bla… but it might take me a lot time to be successful over there so i decided to stay behind and build what i had, at some point Kanye was interested in us, i think we will get to a point where we will be able to make better demand,when its time, it will be time, i don’t know if i will be waiting forever… America is looking into Nigeria now, look at the love they have for Wizkid’s music, Davido and the rest of them, you understand. Now its looking like its ripe enough but then i didn’t think its time.
He further revealed he never envisioned Mo’hit breakup, my relationship with D’banj was like the most beautiful in the industry, He said
He also revealed there is no bad blood between him and D’banj and its the media and fan that are making things difficult for the both of them. Donjazzy confirms the possibility of a collaboration with D’banj on not just a track but an album!.
He also spoke on how, he finally made peace with Olamide after the show:
That’s the beauty about adults. In two seconds after saying all that I regretted my actions. I realised that he did too and we got along. We didn’t want it to escalate.
The decision for myself and my former partner, Dbanj to pursue different path at that point was not the right the decision because it led to a lot of things. ‘Apart from the financial loses, I also lost a friend and brother in D’banj.
