Champions League dreams not in our hands – Conte

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte says he is aware that their dreams of playing in the Champions League next season is no longer in their hands but believes there’s no harm in putting pressure on the teams above them in anticipation of a slip-up.

An early Cesc Fabregas goal at Swansea on Saturday made sure Chelsea moved within two points of Tottenham Hotspur who are in fourth.

The Blues had the type of game Conte was anticipating but achieved the type of result he was sure they needed to the delight of the Italian who secured the Premier League title in his first season at Stamford Bridge.

“For sure the situation is not in our hands but the only way to put a little pressure on Tottenham is to get three points in every game. It won’t be easy.

“They play against Watford on Monday but in football, it is not simple to win the game, especially in this league. But for sure the situation is not in our hands at this moment.” Conte told Chelsea’s official website

Next for Conte and his boys is a clash with Liverpool in a key match in the Champions League push at Stamford Bridge next Sunday
