Breaking: Fayose arrives EFCC office

The immediate past Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has arrived the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters in Wuse 2, Abuja.

“Fayose at EFCC office. Bold and Courageous.” Fayose media aide Lere Olayinka tweeted on Tuesday.

Fayose, whose tenure expired on Tuesday, is under investigation for allegedly receiving N1.3bn from the Office of the National Security Adviser through the then Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro.

Fayose, in a letter dated September 10, had promised to submit himself to the anti-graft agency to “clarify issues or answer questions” within his knowledge.

He also accused the EFCC of “several and serial actions including, but not limited” to the freezing of his accounts and attempting to “secure forfeiture” of his properties, which he said was indicative of commission’s desire to have him clarify some issues.

“I wish to inform you that my term of office pursuant to which I enjoy immunity against investigation and prosecution under the above provision shall lapse by effluxion of time on Monday 15 October 2018,” Fayose said in his statement.
