“Thank you H.E @AkinwunmiAmbode for your kind words today as you officially handed over your stewardship of our great state, Lagos,” Sanwo-Olu tweeted.

Ambode has won praise for conceding defeat gracefully in the All Progressives Congress primary which sees him as an incumbent governor lose his party’s second term ticket.

In his farewell message Ambode urged Lagosians to accord Sanwo-Olu “the same courtesy and cooperation” that was given to him and his predecessors.

“It is in our best interest to do so,” he added.

Ambode fell-out with APC party chieftains including the a former governor of Lagos State and national leader of party Bola Tinubu, who supported him as a candidate in 2015.

Tinubu revealed that he refused to back the Ambode for a second term because he deviated from the master plan created for the development of the state.

Tinubu also accused Ambode of alienating those who ” contributed so much to our development”.

“Whenever a government departed from this plan without [a] compelling reason, the state and its people have borne the painful consequence of the improper departure,” Tinubu said.
