Reds yet to learn extent of Mane injury

Liverpool still don’t know the extent of the injury sustained by Sadio Mane during Saturday’s victory over Everton in the Merseyside derby.
Mane scored the opening goal as the Reds eased to a 3-1 win over their local rivals at Anfield, although the victory was soured somewhat by the news that their top scorer will be sidelined.

An initial scan on the Senegalese winger’s knee problem failed to provide much insight since the swelling hadn’t subsided yet, and the Liverpool Echo reports that the club hopes for a successful diagnosis later this week.

Whilst it is unlikely that Mane sustained a cruciate ligament injury, he will definitely miss the upcoming matches against Bournemouth and Stoke.
In Mane’s absence, Divock Origi is likely to play a key role in the Reds’ run-in, with the Belgium international saying earlier he is ready for the challenge.

“I’m ready, I always said that I’m ready to be an important player for the team,” the 21-year-old said.

“I really believe it. I’m not just an option for the future, I’m an option for now.

“I hope I can play a big part in the end of the season.”

Jurgen Klopp’s side are already without club captain Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana, although Daniel Sturridge has returned to full training.
