The 22-year-old stunned the Premier League with his solid performances for the Cherries during the first half of last season but his impressive loan spell was cut short by Chelsea during the January transfer window.

Ake has since struggled for first team opportunities at Stamford Bridge, making just seven appearances as the champions won the Premier League title.

Prior reports had suggested that Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe is keen on signing the young defender on a permanent deal and even tried to sign him during the last winter window, tabling an £18million bid that was rejected by the Blues.

However, reports in the Sun claim that the Cherries have made an improved offer of £20million for Ake and are confident of landing the defender once he returns from holiday in July.

This comes after Howe swooped on Chelsea’s second choice goalkeeper, Asmir Begovic in a £10million deal.
