Antonio Conte talked the game up in mid-week as a potential title decider as Everton provided one of the more sterner tests in the title run-in against Tottenham.

However, the Londoners managed to put one hand on the Premier League title with a professional display at Goodison Park.

After a goalless first-half with a few nervy moments at both ends, the match sprung into life just after the hour mark with Spain international forward Pedro scoring an absolute screamer from 25-yards out.

It was a real thunderbolt from the former Barcelona man, leaving home goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg with no chance, as he watched the left footed strike fly into the top corner.

The Blues weren’t at their fluent best but the next twenty minutes of football proved their title credentials as they grinded out two more goals before the end of the 90 minutes.

First captain Cahill bundled home a second of the afternoon as Stekelenburg failed to deal with a deflected Eden Hazard free-kick in the 79th minute, and then a substitution masterclass from Conte, with Cesc Fabregas and Willian combining shortly after being sent on by the Italian tactician to convert a well worked team effort with four minutes remaining.

The visitors went on to see the game out to move seven clear of second placed Spurs, as Ronald Koeman’s Everton remained in seventh place.
